In April and May 2026, the STRATERRA team travelled to southern Chile together with Dr. César Marín to follow that record across time. Around Puyehue, we sampled along a chronosequence of forest stands of different ages, first inside Puyehue National Park, then on Mapuche land nearby, guided by Elias and Leandro, who know and care for this ground far better than any map could.

From there we crossed into a different kind of forest: Forest Stewardship Council-certified stands and pine silviculture managed by CMPC, where Juan Carlos and Victor guided us to the sites and helped us make sense of the management history behind them.
One gradient, several worlds, protected native forest, community-held land, and working plantation, each with its own story written into the soil.

An enormous thank you to Dr. Marín for his guidance, to CMPC for allowing us to sample their forests, and to everyone who helped us along the way.
